ICE BREAKERS

Name Mix-Up

Sit in a circle on chairs or with definite spots to sit. Put the name of the person on each chair where it cannot be seen. The name on the chair determines the "name" of the person sitting in the chair. Decide where the "beginning" of the circle is. The person at the "beginning" of the circle starts by saying their name (or rather, the name on their chair, which originally is their own name), followed by the name of someone in the room. The person they called says their name and calls someone else's name. That person then says their name and calls on someone else.

If a person makes a mistake, by forgetting to say their name or someone else's, by not responding in time, by responding when their chair's name was not called, or by calling a name of someone who is not there, then they leave their spot and sit to the right of the "beginning" of the circle. The people scoot one seat to the right to accommodate the person who made the mistake. If the person at the beginning makes a mistake, everyone scoots one chair to the right. The person at the beginning position then starts again. However, since the name on the chair is the "name" of the person sitting in the chair, now the person who's real name is Jenny but sitting in the chair labeled Michelle, must respond when someone calls Michelle and not respond when someone calls Jenny. Continue playing the game until everyone is utterly confused.

DIGITAL FIESTA!

Ole! We line up the sombreros and give each senor and senorita three compact discs. All they need to do is sail ONE of those CD's smack dab inside the hat to win! A fast moving game, that assures lots of happy prizewinners.

Who am I?

Everyone writes down one fact about themselves that nobody else would
know. (Don't include names.)  All facts are put in a hat.  One person reads the facts one at a time.  Everyone tries to guess who it is.  For example, the facts could be something like: "I was born in my parents car." or "I was adopted."  It is a fun way to get to know each other.

15 Minutes of Fame:

Put a name of a famous person on everyone's back.  Asking only yes and no questions each person tries to figure out the name.  You are only allowed to ask each person one question.  This is a great way to get people to talk to new people.

HULA "HOOP-A-THON"

Get into circular motion and bring plenty of laughs to your event! We bring the funky neon hula-hoops -- your guests indulge in centrifugal force. Plenty of prizes for everyone who shares the fun and those who "hoop" the longest!

"I have never...":

Each person gets 5 cards or 5 M&M's or 5 whatever.  You go around the circle and each person tells something they have never done.  If you have done it, you must throw one of your cards into the middle.  The last person holding a card wins.  For example, I could say, "I have never been on a mission."  Everyone who is an RM must throw in a card.

Machine

One person makes a motion and a sound to match it. Let's say she makes a punching motion in front of her and says, "Ha Ya!" (Pick activities that would be easy to do for a long period of time). The next person comes up and chooses an interconnecting movement with the first person and makes a matching sound. Let's say she comes up behind her and pretends to tickle the first person's stomach while they say "Hee hee hee!" Then another person comes up and does an interconnecting motion and makes a sound. When all of the participants are doing this, someone can direct them to go faster, slower, louder, softer, and finally make them break down. Use this game as an introduction game by having the sound be each person’s first name

TWO TRUTHS AND ONE LIE

Everyone sits in a circle and one person starts it by getting the person next to her to give her two truths and one lie about herself and the first person has to guess which is the lie.  If she is right she sits down, if she is wrong she goes on to the next person.

ARCHITECT

In 1 minute, your team is to build the highest possible tower, using empty pop cans. After the leader's signal the construction is stopped. If the tower falls, and you have some more time, just begin from the very beginning. The number of points received by the players depends on the number of cans in the tower.

HOP-DOP

All the players (any number of them) are divided into 2 teams and then sit at the table facing each other. One group is given a little coin. The leader of this team must give the coin to one of his partners. He must do it imperceptibly. At the command "Hop" of the opposite team the coin must be shown over the table. At the command "Dop" - it is again hidden under the table, where the players continue to pass it from hand to hand. At the command "Hands on the table!" the players put their hands on the table with the palms down. The leader of the opposite team must guess who has the coin under his/her hand. If he/she guesses, the coin is passed to the opposite team and the game begins anew.

LET’S INTRODUCE OURSELVES

All the guests (many of them) get into 2 circles: the ladies are in the inner one, the gentlemen are in the outer one. The ladies and gentlemen are facing each other. The number of ladies is equal to the number of gentlemen. As the music plays both of the circles are moving in the opposite directions (the inner circle is moving clockwise, the outer one is moving counter-clockwise). In 20-25 seconds the music stops. The circles stop moving. There form the pairs. The ladies and the gentlemen introduce themselves to each other. The ladies introduce themselves the first. Then they let the gentlemen know of their 2 hobbies and of 2 things they don't like. Then the music plays again. The round dance moves to the next pause etc.

DETECTIVES

At the party some girls secretly fill in the questiomairies. In these questiomairies the girls indicate their distinctive marks: height, color of the eyes, dress cut, jewelries. The leader put all these cards into the box. In the pauses between the dances the leader asks the most attentive youths to act as Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot – to find a girl with help of the description given in the card. The youths take the cards and begin to search for the girls. The youth who finds the girl the first is the winner. Then the youths have a dance with the girls they have found.

CHOOSE A PAIR

The instructor holds a bundle of many-colored ribbons by its middle. The ladies come to one end of the bundle, the gentlemen to the other. Each of them takes an end of the ribbon. The instructor lets the bundle go. All the partners are now connected by the ribbons. There are the pairs for a dance.

PEAS

This game is best played over a period of time - like the whole party. Each person is given a number of peas (say 10). Use dry split peas, not the frozen kind. The object of the game is to make someone else say either the word 'yes' or 'no'. If yes or no is said, then that person forfeits a pea to the person who catches them out. The winner is the person with the most peas at the designated time (i.e. the end of a party).

Guess the Picture

Collect a set of pictures of your town / locality / personalities etc. and display them on the wall with a number.  The guests have to identify them and write the name on a sheet of paper.  The winner is the one with the highest score.

Who am I

As they arrive each person has a piece of paper pinned to their back.  The paper contains the name of a famous person.  By asking questions which can only be answered with "Yes" or "No" such as "Am I still alive?", "Am I fictional?", etc. the person has to guess their name.  Successful guessers may have another go.

"Switch"

Divide the participants into two teams and take Team A into another room. Team A must switch various items of clothing or accessories with one another, then return to the game room. Team B must try to guess all the switches that have been made within a five-minute time period. Add up how many items Team B guessed correctly. Then let Team B have a turn to "switch" and let Team A guess the switches. The team with the most correct answers in the allotted time period wins a prize.

Centerpiece Giveaway:

One guest at each table will take home the centerpiece you've provided. Whether it's a dot under the chair or musical chairs, this fun, simple idea gets everyone at the party involved.

Let's Make A Deal:

A fun way to give away your prizes. We'll ask guests to produce items such as an expired driver's license or a green tic-tac. The first person to present it wins a prize.

The Sticker Game:

Each guest is given a sticker and told the object of the game is to collect the most stickers. You'll lose your sticker when you slip and say the secret word we've chosen in conversation. Great for cocktail hour when you want to encourage mingling.

Name That Christmas Carol:

A holiday party must! All of the most popular carols are depicted by a drawing on one sheet. Just figure out each drawing. Easy to play right at your tables.

The Company Party Test:

Two people (maybe the boss and secretary) stand back to back and answer a dozen work-related questions about themselves like "Who's usually late?" while the rest of the company laughs at their answers. This is a huge hit!

The Twelve Days of Christmas:

With your help, we'll write a customized version of this classic carol. Sung to the same tune, the words for each day are uniquely yours. We'll lead the tables in singing and have each table sing a verse. Watch as each table tries to outdo the previous table!

Balloon Hat Building:

Teams of 4-6 are given an assortment of balloons and must build either the largest or the most creative hat before time runs out.

Air Band:

Give us the names of 10 outgoing, enthusiastic, well-known people in the company (or the people who have been ticking you off lately) and we'll give you an entertainment segment that will have the crowd on it's feet thinking they're at a concert. Each participant will be part of the band. We'll provide the inflatable saxaphone, keyboards, guitars and drums. They'll each be given a chance to "warm up" before performing their smash hit before the crowd. They won't know what they're playing but once the first few notes are played on our sound system the guests will be clapping along and filling up the dance floor. Shhh! It's instrumental to the overall success to keep this performance a surprise.

21:

Teams race against each other to be the first to build a pyramid with styrofoam cups. Sounds easy? Watch what happens just when you think you have a winner.

Group Dances:

Group dances work well especially when many guests don't have a dancing partner. We know how to teach the dances that will get the crowd going.

"Let's Make A Deal"

Where you ask audience members for an object that not everyone might have in their purse or pocket but chances are somebody will have one...like a red hair pick or a silver money clip...then give them a prize like a can cozy or hat from the bar.... then you can ask them if they want to keep that prize or go for whats in your hand/box/bag. Etc. and THAT prize could either be a bag of pretzels or a CD or a t-shirt or a smooch from Large Marge who is all too willing to lay a big kiss on anybody :)

"Truth or Dare"

You ask somebody up and you ask them a personal question and if they answer the audience decides whether they are telling the truth or lying.... or they can do a Dare and they have to do something stupid like sing a song or do a lap dance or whatever.

"Pass the Buck"

Say the room you are playing is set with (10) ten (8) eight-foot round tables with (10) ten chairs each. Prior to the start time of the event and after doing sound and light checks, I place an inexpensive item (such as a $5 Blockbuster gift certificate) in a plain mailing envelope. I then take the sealed envelope and tape it to the bottom of one chair at each table. At my discretion during the evening, usually when I think an "ice-breaker" is needed, I instruct everyone to reach under his or her chairs and remove whatever they find attached (unless of course it's dried gum or worse!) Once they remove the envelope, I ask that they hold the envelope high in the air so that I am able to determine that each table has an envelope. Once this is accomplished, I instruct all attendees that they are to "pass" the envelope to their right as appropriate music plays (the Final Jeopardy tune works great here). When the music stops, I instruct the person holding the envelope to stand up. (I build this up during the passing of the envelope to make this person think that they are the winner) When all holders of the envelope are standing, I then instruct them to pass the envelope to the person seated to their immediate left. This is the winner of the prize.

"Lets Do the Twist" Dance Contest!

Hip shaking' mamas and toe tapping' daddies unite! Our personality DJ puts each finalist in the spotlight Dick Clark-style, each of whom receives a special prize. Frankie and Annette would be jealous!

"TV TRIVIA" & "NAME THAT (TV THEME)TUNE"

Do you know the name of Little Ricky's babysitter on "I Love Lucy", or Latka's wifes name on "Taxi"? Can you be the first to identify the theme from "Cheers", "The Jetson's", or 100's of classic tv show theme songs? You'll be surprised what you remember about classic TV shows! Team up for fun and prizes for all!

LIMBO-RAMA!

How low can you go? Chubby Checker and Harry Belafonte provide the beat to get your guests moving. Great for luaus, Sixties, or beach theme parties. Watch the fun as your crowd bends over backwards" for prizes!

SUCK IT UP!

A wild relay race using nothing but suction! Teams line up and each member is given a straw. The object is to get a marshmallow from one side of the room to the other using only the suction power through your straw. Each winning team member gets a prize!

Name and Number

- As people walk into the party, put their name on one side of an index card, and a number on the other side. As everyone walks around with their name showing (on the index card that is taped to their shirt), they have to try to introduce themselves to as many people as they can. After a bit of mingling, tell everyone to turn over his or her name tags, so that the number on each card is showing rather than the name. Now give everyone a numbered piece of paper, and see who can fill in the most names next to the corresponding number.

Absent Mind

- Tell each of your guests to come to the party with something that shows a lapse in memory. For example, come to the party wearing only one sock or with only half of your make-up on (only one side of your face). Give out paper and pencils, and give everyone 10 minutes to see who can guess the most memory lapses correctly.

Guess Which Guest

- Before the party, write down a statement about each guest. For example, you could write, "Born in a country other than the USA." "The name of the person______________". "The name of the country_________________". Or a statement like, "Changed my major in college 3 times". "The name of the person_________________". "The 3 different majors_______________, ______________, and_____________". Put all of the statements together on one piece of paper, and give each guest a copy. Have all of your guests mingle, and ask each other questions to determine whose name belongs with each statement. Whoever has the most names filled in after about 10-15 minutes gets the honor of introducing the people whose names are on his/her sheet.

Know Your Neighbor

- As soon as all of your guests arrive, have everyone sit in a circle. Go around the circle and have everyone say their first and last names, and one fact about themselves (such as "I work with dogs," or "I hate pizza with mushrooms," etc.). Have one person stand in the middle (this person is "It"), and point to another person. The person who is pointed at has 10 seconds to give the first and last names as well as "the fact" about the person to his/her right or left (the person who is "It" gets to choose). If the person cannot give the information, then he/she has to go into the center and is now "It". (The person, who was "It" previously, will sit in the now empty seat in the circle). End the game as soon as everyone has had a turn, or when everyone has been "introduced". (Award prizes to those who know their "neighbor").

Balloon Friend Blend

- Put each name of half of your party guests on a separate slip of paper, and put each slip of paper inside of its own balloon. (For example, if you have 10 guests, put 5 names in 5 separate balloons). Throw all of the balloons up into the air, and have each person (the 5 people whose names are not in a balloon) take a balloon and pop it! They must then walk around and find the person whose name they have, and both people must introduce themselves to each other. Then after chatting for a few moments, the person whose name was not in the balloon must introduce their "balloon friend" to another person at the party. Continue to introduce yourself and your "balloon friend" to people until both of you have met everyone at the party. (If there are other games, this is a good way to set up random partners as well).

Describe Me

- What is everyone's first impression of other partygoers? As guests arrive, make sure that each person gets an index card taped to their back as well as a pencil. Have your guests mingle, and meet each other. As people get to know each other a little bit better, have each guest write their first impressions of the people they meet on the cards on their backs. Make sure to tell your guests to write funny things, but to stay away from anything resembling rude or mean comments. Write things like "quick wit," "bedroom eyes," "million dollar smile," "hot stepper," etc. After about 15-20 minutes, have each person read the card off the adjacent person's back for a few laughs.

Sticker Stalker

- When guests begin to arrive at your house, give each guest a pack/sheet of 10 stickers. The object of this game is to get rid of all your stickers by sticking them on the other guests (One sticker per guest). However, if the guest you are "stickering" catches you, he/she gets to stick one of his/her stickers on you. If you are "caught", you must temporarily take your sticker back, and you can try to sticker that same person later (at your own risk). But if someone falsely accuses you of "stickering" him/her, then you can automatically put one of your stickers on that person. The first one to get rid of all 10 of their original stickers is the winner!

Quick Name

- This game combines quick knowledge of the names of the people at the party, as well as various items from different categories. Have everyone sit/stand in a circle. Go around the circle and have everyone say their first name, and then reveal a good way to remember their name. The first person begins the game by announcing what the category is. For example, let's say that the category is cars. The first person would then throw the ball at someone of his/her choice, and that person would have to say something that relates to the category of cars, as well as the name of the person who threw the ball. Then as quickly as possible without skipping a beat, that person must throw it to another person of his/her choice. When the next person gets the ball, he/she must say another thing that relates to the car category as well as the name of the person who just threw the ball- and so on. If someone flubs a name or a category then he/she is out. The person who is left sitting in the circle last is the winner. However, if you would rather just focus on getting to know everyone and having fun, you can award prizes at the end for "Quickest Thinker," "Worst With Names," "Best/Worst Passer" etc.

Hand To Hand

- Guests need to get into pairs and form two circles, one inside of the other. One person needs to be in charge of starting and stopping the music, and another person gets to be the leader. When the music begins, the two circles are to begin moving in opposite directions. The leader remains in the center of the circles barking out commands such as "Hand to foot," "Nose to back of head," "Elbow to hip," "Cheek to cheek," etc., and every time the music is stopped the people facing each other must obey the commands. When the music stops, the leader must find someone to pair up with, and then the person who is left out becomes the leader.

Sign My Arm

- No, this is not a game like "Pull My Finger"! Give all of your guests a marker, and have everyone at the party put a paper bag over their signing hand (arm). When the host/hostess says, "Go," then everyone in the room must obtain as many signatures as they can. It isn't as easy as it sounds though, because each person has to keep the paper bag on their signing hand (so they must sign with the opposite hand). At the end of 5 minutes, the person with the most signatures is the winner!
